Crabtree Infants' and Junior School

Making A Difference

Infant School Admissions

Crabtree Infants' School is an academy school within Ivy Learning Trust. The Trust is the Admitting Authority for Crabtree Infants' School and is responsible for setting the rules by which children will be admitted to the school. As Admitting Authority Ivy Learning Trust currently maintains the same admissions arrangements as those applied by Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) for community schools.  Specifically the over subscription criteria applied are the same as those applied by HCC.

More details of the admissions arrangements for entry in the 2023/24 academic year can  be found at the bottom of this page.

Summary

Crabtree Infants’ School is a community primary school for children aged 4-7. Each year group has two classes, with a maximum of 30 children in each class. Crabtree Infants School provides for the full- time admission of all children offered a place in the Reception year group from the September following their fourth birthday. If a parent wants a full-time place for their child from September then they are entitled to that full-time place. Parents can defer the date their child is admitted to school until later in the same academic year or until the term in which the child reaches compulsory school age. Summer born children are only able to “defer” entry to Reception class until the beginning of the final term of the school year for which the offer was made. Where parents wish, children can attend part-time until they reach compulsory school age. Any parents wishing to take up a part-time place or deferred entry should contact the individual school(s) to discuss their child’s requirements.

Having a place at the Infants' School is one of the highest criteria to obtain a place at our linked Junior School. Nearly all our children transfer there at the end of Key Stage One.

For the avoidance of doubt, all parents/carers seeking a place for their child at Crabtree Junior School must complete the Common Application Form even if the child already attends Crabtree Infants’ School.  There is no automatic transition, although the linked school status is relevant when applying the over subscription criteria.

Prospective Parent Information Sessions for Reception 2024-2025

Each year in November, we hold information sessions for prospective parents whose child/ren will be rising 5 in the next academic year. This is a presentation by the Head of the Infant and Junior School informing you about life at Crabtree and everything that our wonderful schools have to offer.

In Year Admissions

All In Year Admissions are dealt with directly by the school. If you are moving to the area or wish to move your child from another school you will need to contact the school office for an application form.

Once the completed application form has been sent back to the school, we will either offer you a place, if there is one available, or add you to our waiting list.

All applications are dealt with in accordance to the admissions arrangements.

If a place has been offered to you we will organise a visit for you and your child to see the school. We cannot offer visits unless a place has become available.
